  • 1/2 tsp coriander powder
  • 1/4 tsp turmeric powder
  • 1/4 cup chopped cilantro
  • 1/4 cup chopped green onions
  • 1/2 cup water for steaming

Instructions

  • In a large mixing bowl, combine 2 cups of flour and 1/2 cup of water. Knead the dough for 5-7 minutes until smooth. Cover with a damp cloth and let it rest for 30 minutes.
  • In a separate bowl, mix the ground meat or vegetables with chopped onion, garlic, ginger, soy sauce, vegetable oil, salt, black pepper, cumin powder, coriander powder, turmeric powder, cilantro, and green onions. Mix well to combine.
  • Divide the rested dough into small balls and roll each ball into a thin circle, about 3 inches in diameter.
  • Place a spoonful of the meat or vegetable filling in the center of each dough circle. Fold the edges of the circle over the filling and pinch them together to form a pleated, crescent-shaped dumpling.
  • Place the momos in a greased steamer basket, making sure they do not touch each other. Steam over boiling water for 15-20 minutes until the dough is cooked and the filling is tender.
  • Serve the momos hot with a dipping sauce made of soy sauce, vinegar, and chili paste.
  • Enjoy your delicious homemade momos!

TibetanNepalese

Momo is a type of South Asian dumpling, believed to have originated in Tibet before spreading to Nepal, Bhutan, and India. These delicious dumplings are typically filled with a mixture of meat, such as lamb, chicken, or buffalo, and flavored with a blend of spices like ginger, garlic, and cilantro. The dough is then folded into small, delicate pockets and steamed or fried to perfection. Momo has become a popular street food and is also served in restaurants across the region. In Nepal, the Kathmandu Valley is renowned for its momo, with countless eateries offering their own unique variations. The key to a perfect momo lies in the balance of flavors in the filling and the tenderness of the dough, making it a must-try for any food enthusiast.
