Teriyaki Grilled Shrimp

Created by: Howcan Team

Ingredients

  • 1 pound of large shrimp, peeled and deveined
  • 1/4 cup of soy sauce
  • 2 tablespoons of honey
  • 2 cloves of garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon of grated fresh ginger
  • 2 tablespoons of rice vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon of sesame oil
  • 1/4 teaspoon of red pepper flakes
  • 2 tablespoons of chopped green onions, for garnish
  • 1 tablespoon of sesame seeds, for garnish

Instructions

  • In a small bowl, whisk together 1/4 cup of soy sauce, 2 tablespoons of honey, 2 cloves of minced garlic, 1 teaspoon of grated fresh ginger, 2 tablespoons of rice vinegar, 1 tablespoon of sesame oil, and 1/4 teaspoon of red pepper flakes to make the teriyaki marinade.
  • Place the peeled and deveined shrimp in a resealable plastic bag or a shallow dish, and pour the teriyaki marinade over the shrimp. Toss to coat the shrimp evenly. Marinate in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes, or up to 2 hours.
  • Preheat the grill to medium-high heat. Thread the marinated shrimp onto skewers, if using wooden skewers, make sure to soak them in water for at least 30 minutes before grilling to prevent burning.
  • Grill the shrimp for 2-3 minutes on each side, or until they are pink and opaque. Be careful not to overcook the shrimp as they can become rubbery.
  • Remove the shrimp from the grill and place them on a serving platter. Garnish with chopped green onions and sesame seeds. Serve hot and enjoy!

Japanese

Teriyaki Grilled Shrimp has a rich history rooted in Japanese culinary tradition. The dish originated in Japan, where it was first prepared by skilled chefs who marinated fresh, succulent shrimp in a flavorful blend of soy sauce, mirin, and sugar. The shrimp were then expertly grilled to perfection, resulting in a dish that perfectly balanced sweet and savory flavors. Over time, Teriyaki Grilled Shrimp gained popularity in Japanese restaurants around the world, with chefs adding their own unique twists to the classic recipe. Today, the best versions of this dish can be found in authentic Japanese restaurants, where the quality of the shrimp and the balance of the teriyaki marinade are crucial to achieving the perfect flavor. For a delicious alternative, consider adding a touch of ginger or garlic to the marinade for an extra burst of flavor.
