Ingredients
- 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, cold and cut into small pieces
- 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
- 2-3 fresh jalapenos, seeded and finely chopped
- 1/2 cup milk
- 1 egg, beaten
- 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- In a large bowl, whisk together 1 1/2 cups of flour, 1 1/2 teaspoons of baking powder, and 1/2 teaspoon of salt.
- Cut in 1/2 cup of cold, unsalted butter using a pastry cutter or fork until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
- Stir in 1 cup of shredded cheddar cheese and the chopped jalapenos.
- In a separate small bowl, mix together 1/2 cup of milk, 1 beaten egg, 1/4 teaspoon of garlic powder, and 1/4 teaspoon of cayenne pepper.
- Add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients and stir until just combined. The dough will be sticky.
- Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface and knead gently 4-5 times. Shape the dough into a 12x4 inch rectangle.
- Cut the dough into 12 breadsticks and place them on the prepared baking sheet.
- Bake for 12-15 minutes, or until the breadsticks are golden brown and the cheese is bubbly.
