Orzo pasta, also known as risoni, is a small, rice-shaped pasta that has been a staple in Mediterranean and Middle Eastern cuisine for centuries. Its name "orzo" means barley in Italian, reflecting its resemblance to the grain. This versatile pasta has a rich history, with roots in ancient Greece and Rome, where it was a popular choice for both sweet and savory dishes. Today, orzo is widely used in a variety of recipes, from soups and salads to pilafs and casseroles. Renowned chefs like Yotam Ottolenghi and Ina Garten have popularized its use in modern Mediterranean and Italian-inspired dishes. For the best orzo pasta experience, seek out authentic Italian or Greek restaurants, where skilled chefs prepare it to perfection. The key to a great orzo dish lies in its al dente texture and its ability to absorb flavors, making it a delightful addition to any meal. Whether enjoyed in a classic Greek orzo salad or a comforting Italian orzo soup, this pasta never fails to impress with its versatility and delicious taste.
