Created by: Howcan Team
Ingredients
- 1 cup of unsalted butter, softened
- 1/2 cup of granulated sugar
- 2 cups of all-purpose flour
- 1/4 teaspoon of salt
- 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract
- 1/2 cup of semi-sweet chocolate chips
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- In a large mixing bowl, cream together 1 cup of softened unsalted butter and 1/2 cup of granulated sugar until light and fluffy.
- Add 2 cups of all-purpose flour, 1/4 teaspoon of salt, and 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract to the creamed mixture. Mix until a dough forms.
- Roll the dough out on a lightly floured surface to about 1/4 inch thickness. Use cookie cutters to cut out desired shapes and place them on the prepared baking sheet.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 12-15 minutes, or until the edges are lightly golden. Remove from the oven and allow the cookies to cool completely on a wire rack.
- In a microwave-safe bowl, melt 1/2 cup of semi-sweet chocolate chips in 30-second intervals, stirring in between, until smooth.
- Drizzle the melted chocolate over the cooled shortbread cookies using a spoon or piping bag.
- Allow the chocolate drizzle to set before serving. Enjoy!
Chocolate Drizzled Shortbread Cookies have a rich history dating back to the medieval times in Scotland, where they were first made with oat flour, butter, and sugar. The modern version of these delectable treats is attributed to the famous Scottish chef, Mary Berry, who popularized the recipe on her cooking show. The buttery, crumbly texture of the shortbread, combined with the sweet and decadent drizzled chocolate, has made these cookies a beloved dessert worldwide. Today, the best version of this dish can be found in artisanal bakeries and high-end patisseries, where skilled bakers use high-quality ingredients to create the perfect balance of flavors. The key to making these cookies exceptional lies in using premium butter and finely ground flour to achieve the desired melt-in-your-mouth consistency. For a unique twist, some chefs incorporate a sprinkle of sea salt or a hint of citrus zest to elevate the flavor profile. Whether enjoyed with a cup of tea or as a standalone indulgence, Chocolate Drizzled Shortbread Cookies continue to captivate dessert enthusiasts with their irresistible charm.
