Garlic Naan

Created by: Howcan Team

Ingredients

  • 2 cups of all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon of active dry yeast
  • 1 teaspoon of sugar
  • 1 teaspoon of salt
  • 3/4 cup of warm water
  • 2 tablespoons of plain yogurt
  • 2 tablespoons of olive oil
  • 4 cloves of garlic, minced
  • 2 tablespoons of chopped fresh cilantro
  • 2 tablespoons of butter, melted

Instructions

  • In a small bowl, combine 1 teaspoon of active dry yeast, 1 teaspoon of sugar, and 3/4 cup of warm water. Let it sit for 5-10 minutes until it becomes frothy.
  • In a large mixing bowl, combine 2 cups of all-purpose flour and 1 teaspoon of salt. Make a well in the center and pour in the yeast mixture, 2 tablespoons of plain yogurt, and 2 tablespoons of olive oil. Mix until it forms a dough.
  • Knead the dough on a floured surface for 5-7 minutes until it becomes smooth and elastic. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for 45 minutes to 1 hour, or until it doubles in size.
  • Punch down the dough and divide it into 6 equal portions. Roll each portion into a ball and then flatten it into a teardrop shape using a rolling pin.
  • Heat a non-stick skillet or griddle over medium-high heat. Place a piece of dough onto the skillet and cook for 2 minutes, or until bubbles start to form. Flip the naan and cook for an additional 1-2 minutes, or until it puffs up and has golden brown spots.
  • While the naan is cooking, mix 4 cloves of minced garlic and 2 tablespoons of chopped fresh cilantro into 2 tablespoons of melted butter.
  • Brush the garlic-cilantro butter onto the cooked naan and keep warm until ready to serve.
  • Repeat with the remaining portions of dough.
  • Serve the garlic naan warm and enjoy!
