Veal Parmesan, also known as Veal Parmigiana, is a classic Italian-American dish that has become a staple in many Italian restaurants across the United States. This dish consists of tender veal cutlets that are breaded, fried to golden perfection, and then smothered in marinara sauce and melted cheese. The origins of Veal Parmesan can be traced back to Southern Italy, where it was traditionally made with eggplant instead of veal. However, Italian immigrants in the United States adapted the recipe, using veal instead, and adding extra cheese to create the beloved dish we know today. In terms of the best version of this dish, many Italian-American restaurants in New York City are renowned for their exceptional Veal Parmesan. Chefs in Little Italy and other Italian enclaves have perfected the art of making this dish, ensuring that the veal is tender, the breading is crispy, and the cheese is perfectly melted. When it comes to making Veal Parmesan at home, the key is to use high-quality ingredients, including fresh veal cutlets, flavorful marinara sauce, and a generous amount of cheese. Some chefs also recommend using a combination of mozzarella and Parmesan cheese for an extra cheesy and indulgent flavor. Additionally, paying attention to the breading technique and frying the veal cutlets to a crispy golden brown is crucial for achieving the perfect texture. Overall, Veal Parmesan is a comforting and satisfying dish that continues to be a favorite in Italian-American cuisine, and with the addition of extra cheese, it becomes an even more decadent and irresistible indulgence.
