Italian

Ciabatta bread, with its airy interior and crisp crust, originated in Italy in the 1980s. This rustic bread was created by a group of bakers in response to the popularity of French baguettes. The name "ciabatta" means slipper in Italian, a nod to the bread's flat, elongated shape. When topped with melted cheese and fresh tomato slices, this dish becomes a delightful bruschetta variation. The best version of this dish can be found in the streets of Rome, where local chefs skillfully melt the cheese to perfection and pair it with ripe, juicy tomatoes. The key to this dish lies in using high-quality, flavorful cheese and perfectly ripe tomatoes. For a twist, some chefs also add a drizzle of balsamic glaze or a sprinkle of fresh basil for an extra burst of flavor.
