Created by: Howcan Team
Ingredients
- 4 veal cutlets, pounded to 1/4-inch thickness
- 1 cup of all-purpose flour
- 2 eggs, beaten
- 1 cup of Italian seasoned breadcrumbs
- 1/2 cup of grated Parmesan cheese
- 1/4 cup of olive oil
- 1 cup of marinara sauce
- 4 slices of mozzarella cheese
- 4 sandwich rolls
- Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions
- Season the veal cutlets with salt and pepper on both sides.
- Dredge each cutlet in the flour, then dip into the beaten eggs, and coat with the breadcrumbs mixed with Parmesan cheese, pressing gently to adhere.
- In a large skillet, heat the olive oil over medium-high heat. Add the breaded veal cutlets and cook for 3-4 minutes on each side, or until golden brown and cooked through. Remove from the skillet and drain on paper towels.
- Preheat the broiler. Open the sandwich rolls and place them on a baking sheet, cut side up. Place a cooked veal cutlet on the bottom half of each roll, spoon marinara sauce over the cutlets, and top with a slice of mozzarella cheese.
- Place the baking sheet under the broiler and broil for 2-3 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly.
- Remove from the broiler, cover with the top half of the rolls, and serve hot. Enjoy your delicious Veal Parmesan Sandwich!
The Veal Parmesan Sandwich, also known as Veal Parmigiana, has its roots in Italian-American cuisine. This delectable dish features breaded and fried veal cutlets, topped with marinara sauce and melted cheese, all nestled between two slices of crusty bread. The dish is believed to have originated in Italian immigrant communities in the United States, particularly in New York and New Jersey. Renowned chefs and restaurants have put their own spin on this classic, with variations in the type of cheese used, the thickness of the veal cutlets, and the choice of bread. Today, the best versions of this dish can be found in authentic Italian eateries and delis, where the veal is tender, the marinara sauce is rich and flavorful, and the cheese is perfectly melted. The key to a perfect Veal Parmesan Sandwich lies in the quality of the ingredients and the careful preparation of each component. Whether it's enjoyed as a quick lunch or a hearty dinner, this iconic sandwich continues to be a beloved favorite for Italian food enthusiasts.
