Cheese-Stuffed Meatballs

Created by: Howcan Team

Ingredients

  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1/2 cup breadcrumbs
  • 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1/4 cup chopped fresh parsley
  • 1 egg
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/4 tsp black pepper
  • 4 oz mozzarella cheese, cut into 12 cubes
  • 2 cups marinara sauce

Instructions

  • Preheat the oven to 375°F. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  • In a large bowl, combine 1 lb of ground beef, 1/2 cup breadcrumbs, 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese, 1/4 cup chopped fresh parsley, 1 egg, 1/2 tsp salt, and 1/4 tsp black pepper. Mix until well combined.
  • Divide the meat mixture into 12 equal portions. Take each portion and flatten it in the palm of your hand. Place a cube of mozzarella cheese in the center and form the meat around the cheese, shaping it into a ball.
  • Place the stuffed meatballs on the prepared baking sheet and bake for 20 minutes, or until cooked through.
  • In a large skillet, heat 2 cups of marinara sauce over medium heat. Add the cooked meatballs to the skillet and simmer for 5 minutes, allowing the meatballs to soak up the sauce.
  • Serve the cheese-stuffed meatballs hot, garnished with additional grated Parmesan cheese and parsley if desired. Enjoy!

Italian

The history of cheese-stuffed meatballs dates back to ancient Rome, where a similar dish called "Isicia Omentata" was popular. However, the modern version of this delectable dish is often attributed to Italian cuisine. Renowned chefs like Lidia Bastianich and Giada De Laurentiis have popularized this dish, infusing it with their own unique twists. The best versions of this dish can be found in the heart of Italy, particularly in regions like Sicily and Campania, where the use of fresh, high-quality ingredients elevates the flavors. The key to perfecting this dish lies in the quality of the meat, the choice of cheese, and the seasoning. For a unique twist, some chefs also incorporate alternative methods such as grilling the meatballs for a smoky flavor.
