Teriyaki Marinated Tofu with Stir-Fried Vegetables
Created by: Howcan Team
Ingredients
- 1 block of firm tofu, drained and pressed
- 1/2 cup of teriyaki sauce
- 2 tablespoons of sesame oil
- 1 red bell pepper, sliced
- 1 yellow bell pepper, sliced
- 1 cup of broccoli florets
- 1 cup of snap peas
- 3 cloves of garlic, minced
- 1 tablespoon of fresh ginger, grated
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Cooked rice or noodles for serving
Instructions
- Cut the pressed tofu into cubes and place them in a shallow dish. Pour the teriyaki sauce over the tofu, making sure it is well coated. Cover and let marinate in the refrigerator for at least 20 minutes.
- In a large skillet or wok, heat 1 tablespoon of sesame oil over medium-high heat. Add the marinated tofu cubes and cook until golden brown on all sides, about 5-7 minutes. Remove the tofu from the skillet and set aside.
- In the same skillet, add the remaining tablespoon of sesame oil. Add the minced garlic and grated ginger, and stir-fry for 1-2 minutes until fragrant.
- Add the sliced bell peppers, broccoli florets, and snap peas to the skillet. Stir-fry for 5-7 minutes, or until the vegetables are tender-crisp.
- Return the cooked tofu to the skillet and toss everything together. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
- Serve the teriyaki marinated tofu and stir-fried vegetables over cooked rice or noodles. Enjoy!
The history of Teriyaki Marinated Tofu with stir-fried vegetables dates back to ancient Japan, where the art of teriyaki cooking originated. This dish combines the traditional Japanese method of marinating tofu in a sweet and savory teriyaki sauce with the vibrant flavors of stir-fried vegetables. Renowned chefs in Japan, such as Nobu Matsuhisa, have elevated this dish to new heights, infusing it with their own unique culinary expertise. Today, the best versions of this dish can be found in authentic Japanese restaurants, where the key lies in achieving the perfect balance of the teriyaki marinade and the freshness of the stir-fried vegetables. The key to getting this dish right is to ensure that the tofu is marinated to perfection, allowing it to absorb the rich flavors of the teriyaki sauce, while the stir-fried vegetables are cooked to a crisp, yet tender perfection. This dish offers a delicious alternative to traditional meat-based teriyaki dishes, making it a popular choice for vegetarians and health-conscious diners.
