Created by: Howcan Team

Ingredients

  • 1 pound ground pork
  • 2 cups finely chopped Napa cabbage
  • 1/4 cup chopped green onions
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon sesame oil
  • 1 tablespoon minced fresh ginger
  • 1 clove garlic, minced
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 24 round dumpling wrappers
  • 1/4 cup water

Instructions

  • In a large bowl, combine 1 pound of ground pork, 2 cups of finely chopped Napa cabbage, 1/4 cup of chopped green onions, 2 tablespoons of soy sauce, 1 tablespoon of sesame oil, 1 tablespoon of minced fresh ginger, 1 clove of minced garlic, 1/2 teaspoon of salt, and 1/4 teaspoon of black pepper.
  • Place a small spoonful of the pork mixture in the center of a dumpling wrapper. Moisten the edges of the wrapper with water, then fold the wrapper in half and press the edges together to seal. Repeat with the remaining wrappers and pork mixture.
  • Place a steamer basket in a large pot and add enough water to come just below the bottom of the basket. Bring the water to a boil over medium-high heat.
  • Arrange the dumplings in the steamer basket, making sure they are not touching each other. Cover the pot with a lid and steam the dumplings for 12-15 minutes, or until the pork is cooked through and the wrappers are tender.
  • Carefully remove the steamer basket from the pot. Serve the dumplings hot with soy sauce or your favorite dipping sauce. Enjoy!

Steamed pork dumplings, also known as xiaolongbao, have a rich history dating back to the Song Dynasty in China. These delectable dumplings are traditionally filled with a savory mixture of minced pork, ginger, and aromatic spices, then carefully wrapped in a delicate dough and steamed to perfection. Renowned chefs like Din Tai Fung in Taiwan and Shanghai's Jia Jia Tang Bao have elevated the art of crafting these dumplings, drawing food enthusiasts from around the world. The key to the perfect steamed pork dumpling lies in the balance of flavors within the filling and the thinness of the dough, ensuring a burst of juicy goodness with every bite. Today, the best versions of this dish can be found in authentic Chinese restaurants, where skilled chefs meticulously prepare each dumpling by hand. Whether enjoyed as a dim sum delicacy or a comforting meal, steamed pork dumplings continue to captivate food lovers with their irresistible taste and rich history.
