Created by: Howcan Team
Ingredients
- 1 pound of large shrimp, peeled and deveined
- 1/2 cup of all-purpose flour
- 1/4 cup of unsalted butter
- 4 cloves of garlic, minced
- 1/4 teaspoon of red pepper flakes
- 1/2 cup of white wine
- 1/4 cup of fresh lemon juice
- 1/4 cup of chopped fresh parsley
- Salt and black pepper to taste
- 8 ounces of cooked linguine or pasta of your choice
Instructions
- In a shallow dish, season the flour with salt and black pepper. Dredge the shrimp in the seasoned flour, shaking off any excess.
- In a large skillet, melt the butter over medium heat. Add the shrimp and cook for 2-3 minutes on each side until they turn pink. Remove the shrimp from the skillet and set aside.
- In the same skillet, add the minced garlic and red pepper flakes. Cook for 1 minute, stirring constantly.
- Pour in the white wine and lemon juice, and bring to a simmer. Cook for 2-3 minutes to reduce the sauce slightly.
- Return the cooked shrimp to the skillet and toss to coat in the sauce. Cook for an additional 1-2 minutes until the shrimp are heated through.
- Stir in the chopped parsley and season with additional salt and black pepper if needed.
- Serve the shrimp scampi over cooked linguine or pasta of your choice, and enjoy!
Shrimp Scampi is a classic Italian-American dish that has become a staple in seafood cuisine. The dish originated in Italy, where it was traditionally made with langoustine, but evolved in the United States to feature shrimp as the main ingredient. The dish is known for its rich, garlicky, and buttery sauce, often enhanced with white wine, lemon juice, and parsley. Chefs like Lidia Bastianich and Mario Batali have popularized their own versions of Shrimp Scampi, adding their unique twists to the recipe. Today, the best versions of this dish can be found in Italian restaurants across the United States, particularly in coastal regions known for their fresh seafood. The key to a perfect Shrimp Scampi lies in using high-quality shrimp, fresh garlic, and a balance of flavors in the sauce. While the traditional method involves sautéing the shrimp in the sauce, some chefs also bake or broil the dish for a delicious alternative. Whether enjoyed over pasta or with crusty bread, Shrimp Scampi continues to delight diners with its irresistible flavors and timeless appeal.
