Sesame chicken is a popular Chinese-American dish with a rich history. It originated in the early 20th century in the United States, where Chinese immigrants adapted traditional Chinese flavors to suit American palates. The dish typically consists of crispy, bite-sized pieces of chicken coated in a sweet and savory sesame sauce, garnished with sesame seeds. Chefs like Chef Peng Chang-kuei, who is credited with creating General Tso's chicken, played a role in popularizing sesame chicken in the US. Today, the best versions of this dish can be found in Chinese restaurants across the country, with variations in the sauce's sweetness and the level of crispiness of the chicken. The key to a great sesame chicken lies in achieving the perfect balance of flavors in the sauce, and ensuring the chicken is crispy on the outside and tender on the inside. Some alternative methods for making this dish include using different types of sweeteners in the sauce, such as honey or brown sugar, to add depth to the flavor profile.
