Seitan Chicken Marsala with Cauliflower Rice
Created by: Howcan Team
Ingredients
- 1 cup of seitan chicken strips
- 1/2 cup of all-purpose flour
- 1/2 teaspoon of salt
- 1/4 teaspoon of black pepper
- 2 tablespoons of olive oil
- 8 ounces of mushrooms, sliced
- 1/2 cup of Marsala wine
- 1/2 cup of vegetable broth
- 2 tablespoons of vegan butter
- 1 head of cauliflower, riced
- 2 cloves of garlic, minced
- 2 tablespoons of fresh parsley, chopped
Instructions
- In a shallow dish, mix 1/2 cup of flour with 1/2 teaspoon of salt and 1/4 teaspoon of black pepper.
- Dredge 1 cup of seitan chicken strips in the seasoned flour, shaking off any excess.
- In a large skillet, heat 2 tablespoons of olive oil over medium-high heat.
- Add the dredged seitan chicken strips to the skillet and cook until golden brown, about 3-4 minutes per side. Remove from the skillet and set aside.
- In the same skillet, add the sliced mushrooms and cook until they release their liquid and become golden brown, about 5 minutes.
- Pour in 1/2 cup of Marsala wine and 1/2 cup of vegetable broth, scraping up any browned bits from the bottom of the skillet.
- Stir in 2 tablespoons of vegan butter and return the seitan chicken strips to the skillet. Simmer for 5-7 minutes, or until the sauce has thickened slightly.
- While the seitan chicken marsala is simmering, prepare the cauliflower rice by pulsing the cauliflower florets in a food processor until they resemble rice grains.
- In a separate skillet, sauté 2 cloves of minced garlic in 1 tablespoon of olive oil over medium heat for 1-2 minutes.
- Add the riced cauliflower to the skillet and cook for 5-7 minutes, or until tender.
- Season the cauliflower rice with salt and pepper to taste, and stir in 2 tablespoons of chopped fresh parsley.
- To serve, spoon the seitan chicken marsala over the cauliflower rice and garnish with additional parsley, if desired. Enjoy!
Seitan Chicken Marsala is a delectable dish that originated in Italy and has been adapted to suit various dietary preferences, including vegetarian and vegan diets. This savory creation features tender seitan, a wheat-based meat substitute, simmered in a rich and flavorful Marsala wine sauce. The dish is traditionally served over a bed of al dente pasta or creamy mashed potatoes, but a modern twist has seen it paired with light and fluffy cauliflower rice for a healthier alternative. The history of Seitan Chicken Marsala can be traced back to the Italian region of Sicily, where the sweet and earthy Marsala wine is produced. Renowned chefs and home cooks alike have perfected this dish, infusing it with their own unique flair and culinary expertise. Today, the best versions of this dish can be savored in authentic Italian restaurants that prioritize fresh, high-quality ingredients and time-honored cooking techniques. To achieve the perfect Seitan Chicken Marsala served over cauliflower rice, it's crucial to master the art of creating a luscious Marsala wine sauce that harmonizes with the savory seitan. The key lies in achieving a delicate balance of flavors, allowing the natural sweetness of the wine to meld with the umami notes of the seitan. Additionally, the cauliflower rice should be cooked to a tender yet slightly firm texture, providing a light and nutritious base for the indulgent Marsala dish. For those seeking a famous alternative method for making this dish, some chefs recommend marinating the seitan in a blend of herbs and spices before gently searing it to enhance its depth of flavor. This technique adds an extra layer of complexity to the dish, elevating it to new heights of culinary delight. In conclusion, Seitan Chicken Marsala served over cauliflower rice is a delightful fusion of Italian tradition and modern innovation. Whether enjoyed in a cozy trattoria in Sicily or prepared with a contemporary twist in a bustling urban kitchen, this dish continues to captivate food enthusiasts with its irresistible aromas and exquisite flavors.
