Created by: Howcan Team

Ingredients

  • 2 ahi tuna steaks (6 oz each)
  • 1 cup brown rice
  • 2 cups water
  • 1/4 cup soy sauce
  • 2 tbsp sesame oil
  • 2 tbsp sesame seeds
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  • Rinse the brown rice under cold water and drain. In a medium saucepan, bring 2 cups of water to a boil. Add the brown rice, reduce heat to low, cover, and simmer for 45 minutes or until the rice is tender and the water is absorbed.
  • While the rice is cooking, season the ahi tuna steaks with salt and pepper. In a small bowl, mix the soy sauce and sesame oil. Pour the mixture over the tuna steaks and let them marinate for 10 minutes.
  • Heat the olive oil in a skillet over high heat. Once the skillet is hot, add the tuna steaks and sear for 1-2 minutes on each side for rare to medium-rare doneness.
  • Remove the tuna steaks from the skillet and let them rest for a few minutes. Slice the tuna steaks into 1/4-inch thick slices.
  • Fluff the cooked brown rice with a fork and divide it between two plates. Top each plate with the sliced ahi tuna. Sprinkle sesame seeds over the tuna and rice. Serve immediately.

Seared Ahi Tuna with Brown Rice, topped with sesame seeds, is a popular dish that originated in Hawaii. This dish has a rich history, with its roots in traditional Hawaiian cuisine. The dish features fresh Ahi tuna, marinated in a blend of soy sauce, ginger, and sesame oil, then quickly seared to perfection. The tuna is then served over a bed of nutty brown rice and sprinkled with toasted sesame seeds for a delightful crunch. Many renowned chefs and restaurants in Hawaii have put their own spin on this classic dish, incorporating local ingredients and flavors to create unique variations. The key to a perfect Seared Ahi Tuna with Brown Rice lies in the quality of the tuna and the precise searing technique to achieve a tender, melt-in-your-mouth texture. For those looking to experience the best version of this dish, visiting a top-rated Hawaiian restaurant is a must. While the traditional preparation of Seared Ahi Tuna with Brown Rice is widely celebrated, there are also alternative methods to enjoy this dish. Some chefs opt to serve the tuna over sushi rice or quinoa for a modern twist, while others experiment with different seasoning blends to add a new dimension of flavor. Whether enjoyed at a high-end restaurant or prepared at home, this dish is a true celebration of fresh, vibrant flavors and is a must-try for seafood enthusiasts.
