Created by: Howcan Team
Ingredients
- 1 pound large shrimp, peeled and deveined
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter
- 4 cloves garlic, minced
- 1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes
- 1/4 cup white wine
- 2 tablespoons fresh lemon juice
- 1/4 cup chopped fresh parsley
- Salt and black pepper to taste
- 8 ounces linguine pasta, cooked al dente
Instructions
- In a large skillet, melt 2 tablespoons of butter over medium heat.
- Add the shrimp to the skillet and season with salt and black pepper. Cook for 2-3 minutes on each side until pink and opaque. Remove the shrimp from the skillet and set aside.
- In the same skillet, melt the remaining butter over medium heat. Add the minced garlic and red pepper flakes, and sauté for 1-2 minutes until fragrant.
- Pour in the white wine and lemon juice, and bring to a simmer. Cook for 2-3 minutes to reduce the sauce slightly.
- Return the cooked shrimp to the skillet and toss to coat in the garlic butter sauce. Stir in the chopped parsley.
- Add the cooked linguine to the skillet and toss to combine with the shrimp and sauce. Cook for an additional 1-2 minutes to heat through.
- Serve the garlic butter shrimp scampi immediately, garnished with additional parsley if desired. Enjoy!
Scampi, a popular seafood dish, has a rich history dating back to the 16th century. Originating in Italy, it was traditionally made with langoustine, a type of small lobster, and cooked with garlic, butter, and white wine. Over time, the dish spread throughout Europe, with each region adding its own unique twist. In the United States, scampi is often made with shrimp and served over pasta. Chefs like Julia Child and Emeril Lagasse have popularized their own versions of this classic dish. Today, the best scampi can be found in coastal regions known for their fresh seafood, such as the Amalfi Coast in Italy or the coastal towns of Maine. The key to a perfect scampi lies in using high-quality, fresh seafood and balancing the flavors of garlic, butter, and wine. For a unique twist, some chefs also incorporate ingredients like lemon, parsley, or red pepper flakes to add a burst of flavor. Whether enjoyed in a fine dining restaurant or homemade in a cozy kitchen, scampi continues to be a beloved dish that celebrates the beauty of seafood.
