Created by: Howcan Team

Ingredients

  • 2 cups whole wheat flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup water
  • Oil for deep frying
  • 2 ripe mangoes, peeled and diced
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 1/4 cup white vinegar
  • 1/2 teaspoon cumin seeds
  • 1/2 teaspoon red chili flakes
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground ginger
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt

Instructions

  • In a large mixing bowl, combine 2 cups of whole wheat flour and 1/2 teaspoon of salt.
  • Gradually add 1 cup of water and knead the mixture into a smooth dough. Cover the dough and let it rest for 15 minutes.
  • Meanwhile, heat oil in a deep frying pan over medium heat.
  • Divide the dough into small balls, about the size of a golf ball. Roll each ball into a small circle, about 4 inches in diameter.
  • Carefully slide the rolled dough into the hot oil and fry until it puffs up and turns golden brown, about 1-2 minutes per side. Remove and drain on paper towels.
  • To make the mango chutney, in a saucepan, combine the diced mangoes, 1/4 cup of sugar, 1/4 cup of white vinegar, 1/2 teaspoon of cumin seeds, 1/2 teaspoon of red chili flakes, 1/4 teaspoon of ground ginger, 1/4 teaspoon of ground cinnamon, and 1/4 teaspoon of salt.
  • Cook the mixture over medium heat, stirring occasionally, until the mangoes are soft and the chutney has thickened, about 15-20 minutes. Remove from heat and let it cool.
  • Serve the hot puris with the mango chutney on the side. Enjoy!
