Instructions

  • In a large mixing bowl, combine 2 cups of whole wheat flour and 1/2 teaspoon of salt.
  • Add 1 teaspoon of vegetable oil to the flour mixture and mix well.
  • Gradually add 3/4 cup of water to the flour mixture, kneading until a smooth dough forms. Add more water if needed.
  • Cover the dough and let it rest for 15 minutes.
  • Divide the dough into small balls, about the size of a golf ball.
  • Heat oil in a deep frying pan over medium-high heat.
  • Roll out each ball of dough into a circle, about 4 inches in diameter.
  • Carefully place the rolled out dough into the hot oil and fry until it puffs up and turns golden brown, about 1-2 minutes per side.
  • Remove the puri from the oil and place on a paper towel to drain any excess oil.
  • Serve hot and enjoy with your favorite curry or chutney.
