Italian

Pizza Marinara is a classic Italian pizza topped with a simple yet flavorful combination of tomato sauce, garlic, oregano, and extra virgin olive oil. Originating from Naples, Italy, this dish has a rich history dating back to the 18th century. Legend has it that it was a favorite among the sailors, hence the name "Marinara," which means "sailor-style." Renowned pizzaiolos like Raffaele Esposito and Don Antonio Testa have contributed to its popularity. Today, the best versions of Pizza Marinara can be found in authentic pizzerias in Naples, where the use of high-quality San Marzano tomatoes and fresh garlic is crucial for an authentic taste.
