Chicken Pasta Carbonara

Created by: Nathanielmc1

Ingredients

  • 8 oz spaghetti
  • 2 chicken breasts, diced
  • 4 slices of bacon, chopped
  • 2 cloves of garlic, minced
  • 2 eggs
  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1/4 cup heavy cream
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Fresh parsley for garnish

Instructions

  • In a large pot of boiling salted water, cook the spaghetti according to package instructions. Drain and set aside.
  • In a large skillet, cook the bacon over medium heat until crispy. Remove the bacon from the skillet and set aside, leaving the bacon fat in the skillet.
  • Add the diced chicken to the skillet with the bacon fat and cook until golden brown and cooked through. Add the minced garlic and cook for an additional 1-2 minutes.
  • In a small bowl, whisk together the eggs, grated Parmesan cheese, and heavy cream. Season with salt and pepper.
  • Add the cooked spaghetti to the skillet with the chicken and bacon. Pour the egg and cheese mixture over the pasta and toss to coat, ensuring the heat is turned off to avoid scrambling the eggs.
  • The residual heat from the pasta will cook the eggs and create a creamy sauce. If the sauce is too thick, add a splash of pasta cooking water to loosen it up.
  • Garnish with the crispy bacon and fresh parsley. Serve immediately and enjoy!

Pasta carbonara is a classic Italian dish with a rich history dating back to the mid-20th century. The addition of chicken to this traditional recipe adds a delightful twist, creating a hearty and satisfying meal. Renowned chefs in Rome, where pasta carbonara originated, have been known to experiment with variations of this dish, including the addition of chicken to cater to diverse palates. One of the key elements of a delicious pasta carbonara with chicken is the quality of the ingredients. The creamy sauce, made with eggs, Parmesan cheese, and crispy pancetta or bacon, should perfectly coat the al dente pasta and tender pieces of chicken. The dish is often finished with a generous sprinkle of freshly ground black pepper, adding a subtle heat to complement the savory flavors. While the traditional pasta carbonara is typically made with guanciale, a cured meat from the pig's jowl, the addition of chicken provides a lighter alternative without compromising on taste. This adaptation has gained popularity in modern Italian cuisine, offering a delightful option for those seeking a protein-packed twist on the classic dish. When seeking the best version of pasta carbonara with chicken, look for restaurants that prioritize using high-quality, fresh ingredients. The dish should showcase a perfect balance of flavors, with the chicken adding a succulent and tender element to the creamy pasta. Whether enjoyed in a cozy trattoria in Rome or at a modern Italian eatery, pasta carbonara with chicken is a delightful fusion of tradition and innovation, sure to satisfy any pasta lover's cravings.
