Mozzarella sticks, a beloved appetizer, originated in Italy, where mozzarella cheese was first made. The dish gained popularity in the United States in the 1970s, thanks to its crispy exterior and gooey, melted cheese center. Chefs across the country have put their own spin on this classic, but the best version can be found in Italian-American restaurants in the Northeast, particularly in New York and New Jersey. The key to perfect mozzarella sticks lies in the quality of the cheese and the breading. Some chefs swear by using panko breadcrumbs for extra crunch, while others opt for a traditional Italian breadcrumb mixture. Whether served with marinara sauce or a zesty ranch dressing, mozzarella sticks are a must-try for cheese lovers everywhere.
