Created by: Howcan Team

Ingredients

  • 4 boneless, skinless chicken breasts
  • 1/4 cup Dijon mustard
  • 1/4 cup maple syrup
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon dried thyme
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 cup wild rice
  • 2 cups chicken broth
  • 1/4 cup chopped fresh parsley

Instructions

  • Preheat the oven to 375 degrees F.
  • In a small bowl, mix together 1/4 cup Dijon mustard and 1/4 cup maple syrup to create the marinade.
  • Season the chicken breasts with salt, pepper, and 1 teaspoon dried thyme.
  • Heat 2 tablespoons of olive oil in a large oven-safe skillet over medium-high heat. Add 2 cloves of minced garlic and sauté for 1 minute.
  • Add the seasoned chicken breasts to the skillet and cook for 3-4 minutes on each side until golden brown.
  • Pour the maple Dijon marinade over the chicken in the skillet, then transfer the skillet to the preheated oven and bake for 15-20 minutes, or until the chicken is cooked through.
  • While the chicken is baking, rinse 1 cup of wild rice under cold water. In a separate pot, bring 2 cups of chicken broth to a boil. Add the rinsed wild rice to the boiling broth, reduce heat to low, cover, and simmer for 30-35 minutes, or until the rice is tender and the liquid is absorbed.
  • Once the chicken is done, remove the skillet from the oven and let it rest for a few minutes. Sprinkle with 1/4 cup chopped fresh parsley before serving.
  • Serve the maple Dijon chicken with the cooked wild rice on the side. Enjoy!

Maple Dijon Chicken is a classic dish that combines the sweetness of maple syrup with the tangy kick of Dijon mustard, creating a mouthwatering flavor profile. This dish has its roots in French cuisine, where Dijon mustard is a staple ingredient. The addition of wild rice as a side brings a nutty and earthy flavor, complementing the richness of the chicken. Chefs across North America have put their own spin on this dish, incorporating local maple syrup and wild rice from the region. The best version of this dish can be found in cozy farm-to-table restaurants in the Northeastern United States and Canada, where the ingredients are sourced locally for maximum freshness. To make this dish, it's crucial to get the balance of maple syrup and Dijon mustard just right, ensuring that neither flavor overpowers the other. Additionally, cooking the wild rice to a perfect fluffy texture is essential for a satisfying dining experience. For a twist on the traditional recipe, some chefs marinate the chicken in the maple Dijon sauce before grilling it, infusing the meat with even more flavor. This alternative method adds a smoky element to the dish, elevating it to a whole new level of deliciousness.
