Created by: Howcan Team
Ingredients
- 1 lb boneless, skinless chicken breasts, cooked and shredded
- 4 large flour tortillas
- 2 cups shredded lettuce
- 1 cup diced tomatoes
- 1/2 cup diced red onion
- 1/2 cup chopped fresh cilantro
- 1 ripe mango, peeled and diced
- 1 jalapeno pepper, seeded and minced
- 1/4 cup red bell pepper, diced
- 2 tablespoons lime juice
- 1 tablespoon honey
- 1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 1/4 cup sour cream (optional, for serving)
Instructions
- In a large bowl, combine the diced mango, jalapeno pepper, red bell pepper, cilantro, lime juice, honey, cayenne pepper, and a pinch of salt. Mix well to make the spicy mango salsa.
- Lay out the flour tortillas and divide the shredded lettuce, diced tomatoes, and red onion evenly among them, leaving some space at the edges for folding.
- Top the lettuce mixture on each tortilla with the cooked and shredded chicken.
- Spoon the spicy mango salsa over the chicken on each tortilla.
- Fold the sides of the tortillas over the filling, then roll them up tightly from the bottom to create the wraps.
- If desired, heat a large skillet over medium heat and lightly toast the wraps for 1-2 minutes on each side until golden brown and crispy.
- Slice the wraps in half diagonally and serve with a dollop of sour cream on the side, if desired.
- Enjoy your spicy mango chicken wraps!
The Mango Chicken Wrap with spicy mango salsa has a rich history rooted in the fusion of flavors from the Caribbean and Southeast Asia. This delectable dish gained popularity in the 1990s, when renowned chefs in the Caribbean region began experimenting with incorporating ripe mangoes into savory dishes. The succulent chicken, marinated in a blend of aromatic spices, is grilled to perfection and then wrapped in a soft, warm tortilla alongside crisp lettuce and creamy avocado. The star of the show, however, is the spicy mango salsa, which adds a tantalizing kick with its combination of ripe mangoes, fiery chili peppers, zesty lime juice, and fresh cilantro. Today, this dish can be savored in top-notch Caribbean and Southeast Asian restaurants, where chefs take pride in sourcing the finest, ripest mangoes to create the perfect balance of sweet and spicy flavors. For those looking to recreate this culinary delight at home, sourcing high-quality, ripe mangoes and selecting the perfect blend of chili peppers are essential for achieving the authentic, mouthwatering taste of this beloved dish.
