  • 14 oz firm tofu, drained and cut into cubes
  • 2 stalks lemongrass, white part only, finely chopped
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 1 red chili, finely chopped
  • 1 tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 tbsp sweet soy sauce (kecap manis)
  • 1 tsp ground coriander
  • 1/2 tsp ground turmeric
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/4 tsp black pepper
  • 2 tbsp vegetable oil
  • 1/4 cup water
  • 1 tbsp lime juice
  • 2 tbsp chopped fresh cilantro for garnish

Instructions

  • In a bowl, mix together the soy sauce, sweet soy sauce, ground coriander, ground turmeric, salt, and black pepper.
  • Add the tofu cubes to the bowl and gently toss to coat the tofu with the marinade. Let it sit for 10 minutes.
  • Heat the vegetable oil in a large pan over medium heat. Add the lemongrass, garlic, onion, and red chili. Saute for 2-3 minutes until fragrant.
  • Add the marinated tofu to the pan and cook for 5-7 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the tofu is golden brown and crispy on the outside.
  • Pour in the water and lime juice, then stir to combine. Let it simmer for 2-3 minutes until the sauce thickens slightly.
  • Transfer the lemongrass tofu to a serving dish, garnish with chopped cilantro, and serve hot with steamed rice or noodles.
