Created by: Howcan Team
Ingredients
- 2 lbs chicken wings
- 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
- 1/4 cup cornstarch
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 2 eggs, beaten
- 1 cup panko breadcrumbs
- 2 tablespoons sesame seeds
- 1/4 cup honey
- 2 tablespoons sriracha sauce
- 2 tablespoons soy sauce
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tablespoon rice vinegar
- 2 green onions, thinly sliced
- 1 tablespoon sesame oil
- Vegetable oil for frying
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- In a shallow dish, mix together 1/2 cup of flour, 1/4 cup of cornstarch, 1 teaspoon of salt, and 1/2 teaspoon of black pepper.
- Dip each chicken wing into the flour mixture, then into the beaten eggs, and finally coat with a mixture of panko breadcrumbs and sesame seeds. Place the coated wings on the prepared baking sheet.
- Bake the wings in the preheated oven for 25 minutes, or until crispy and golden brown.
- While the wings are baking, make the honey sriracha sauce. In a small saucepan, combine 1/4 cup of honey, 2 tablespoons of sriracha sauce, 2 tablespoons of soy sauce, 2 cloves of minced garlic, and 1 tablespoon of rice vinegar. Cook over medium heat for 5 minutes, stirring constantly, until the sauce thickens slightly.
- In a large skillet, heat 1 tablespoon of sesame oil over medium heat. Add the baked chicken wings and pour the honey sriracha sauce over them. Toss the wings in the sauce until they are evenly coated and the sauce is caramelized, about 2-3 minutes.
- Transfer the wings to a serving platter, sprinkle with sliced green onions, and serve hot. Enjoy!
The history of Honey Sriracha Chicken Wings with a crispy sesame coating can be traced back to the fusion of Asian and American flavors. This delectable dish combines the sweet and spicy flavors of honey and Sriracha with the nuttiness of sesame seeds, creating a tantalizing culinary experience. Renowned chefs in the Pacific Northwest region of the United States are credited with popularizing this unique twist on traditional chicken wings. The dish gained widespread acclaim for its irresistible combination of flavors and textures, drawing inspiration from both Asian and American culinary traditions. Today, the best versions of this dish can be found in trendy gastropubs and modern Asian fusion restaurants, where chefs meticulously coat the chicken wings in a crispy sesame breading before tossing them in a sticky honey Sriracha glaze. The key to achieving the perfect balance of flavors lies in the quality of the honey, the heat of the Sriracha, and the crunch of the sesame coating. For those looking to recreate this dish at home, it's essential to pay attention to the texture of the sesame coating, ensuring it achieves a golden crispiness without becoming overly greasy. Additionally, experimenting with alternative methods such as air frying or baking the wings can offer a healthier twist on this indulgent treat, without compromising on flavor.
