Ham and cheese quiche has a rich history dating back to medieval Germany, where it was known as "kuchen" or cake. The dish gained popularity in France during the 19th century, particularly in the region of Lorraine, where it became known as "quiche Lorraine." Renowned chefs like Julia Child helped popularize the dish in the United States during the 20th century. Today, the best versions of this savory tart can be found in French bistros and patisseries, where the key to a perfect quiche lies in the buttery, flaky crust and the creamy, custardy filling. The combination of smoky ham and gooey cheese makes it a beloved brunch or lunch option. For a twist, consider adding caramelized onions or spinach to elevate the flavors.
