The history of the ham and cheese croissant dates back to the 17th century in France, where the croissant itself was first created. The addition of ham and cheese to the flaky, buttery pastry is said to have originated in Paris, where it quickly became a popular breakfast and snack option. Renowned French chefs like Auguste Escoffier and Julia Child have contributed to the popularity of this delectable treat. Today, the best ham and cheese croissants can still be found in France, particularly in Parisian bakeries known for their traditional baking methods. The key to a perfect ham and cheese croissant lies in the quality of the ingredients, especially the butter and the ham. For a twist, some chefs also add a touch of Dijon mustard or a sprinkle of herbs to elevate the flavors. Whether enjoyed in a quaint Parisian café or made at home, the ham and cheese croissant continues to be a beloved classic.
