Created by: Howcan Team
Ingredients
- 1 block (14 oz) of firm tofu, drained and cut into 1-inch cubes
- 1/4 cup cornstarch
- 3 tablespoons vegetable oil
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tablespoon fresh ginger, minced
- 1/2 teaspoon red pepper flakes
- 1/4 cup soy sauce
- 3 tablespoons hoisin sauce
- 2 tablespoons rice vinegar
- 2 tablespoons sugar
- 1/4 cup water
- 2 green onions, chopped
- 1 teaspoon sesame seeds (optional)
Instructions
- Place the tofu cubes in a large bowl and sprinkle with cornstarch, tossing gently to coat.
- In a large skillet, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat. Add the tofu cubes and cook until golden and crispy on all sides, about 5-7 minutes. Remove the tofu from the skillet and set aside.
- In the same skillet, add a little more oil if needed, then add the garlic, ginger, and red pepper flakes. Cook for 1-2 minutes until fragrant.
- In a small bowl, whisk together the soy sauce, hoisin sauce, rice vinegar, sugar, and water. Pour the sauce into the skillet with the garlic and ginger, and bring to a simmer.
- Add the cooked tofu back into the skillet and toss to coat with the sauce. Cook for an additional 2-3 minutes until the sauce thickens and coats the tofu.
- Remove from heat and sprinkle with chopped green onions and sesame seeds, if using.
- Serve the General Tso's tofu over steamed rice and enjoy!
