Dumplings have a rich history dating back to ancient China, where they were considered a symbol of wealth and prosperity due to their resemblance to gold ingots. These delectable parcels of dough filled with savory meats, vegetables, or sweets have since spread across the globe, each region adding its own unique twist. From the delicate xiao long bao of Shanghai to the hearty pierogies of Eastern Europe, dumplings come in a delightful array of shapes and flavors. Chefs like the renowned Din Tai Fung in Taiwan have elevated the art of dumpling-making to a fine culinary craft. Today, the best dumplings can be found in bustling street markets of Asia or at cozy family-owned restaurants in Chinatowns worldwide. Whether steamed, boiled, or pan-fried, the key to perfect dumplings lies in the balance of the dough and the filling, ensuring a delightful burst of flavor in every bite.
