- 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract
- Pinch of salt
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 425 degrees F.
- Pour the sweetened condensed milk into a 9x13 inch baking dish and sprinkle with a pinch of salt.
- Cover the dish with aluminum foil and place it in a larger roasting pan. Fill the roasting pan with hot water until it reaches halfway up the sides of the baking dish.
- Carefully transfer the roasting pan to the oven and bake for 1.5 to 2 hours, or until the milk is thick and caramelized, stirring every 30 minutes.
- Remove the baking dish from the water bath and let the dulce de leche cool for 10 minutes.
- Stir in the vanilla extract until well combined.
- Transfer the dulce de leche to a jar and let it cool to room temperature before covering and refrigerating. The sauce will continue to thicken as it cools.
- Enjoy the dulce de leche as a topping for ice cream, pancakes, or as a filling for cakes and pastries.
