- 1/2 teaspoon of vanilla extract
- Ground cinnamon for garnish

Colombian Avena is a traditional oatmeal drink that has been enjoyed in Colombia for generations. This creamy and comforting beverage is made with oats, milk, cinnamon, and sugar, and is often served for breakfast or as a mid-morning snack. It is a popular and beloved drink throughout the country, with each region adding its own unique twist to the recipe. Some chefs and restaurants in Colombia are known for their exceptional Avena, such as the street vendors in Bogotá who serve it with a sprinkle of ground almonds, or the cafes in Medellín that infuse it with a hint of vanilla. For the best version of this dish, look for a creamy texture and a perfect balance of sweetness and spice. It's important to get the oat-to-milk ratio just right to achieve the ideal consistency. While the classic recipe is the most popular, some people also enjoy adding fruits like bananas or strawberries for a refreshing twist. Whether enjoyed hot or cold, Colombian Avena is a delightful and nourishing beverage that continues to be a staple in Colombian cuisine.
