Extra Cheesy Breadsticks
Created by: Howcan Team
Ingredients
- 1 1/2 cups of warm water
- 1 tablespoon of sugar
- 1 packet of active dry yeast
- 3 1/2 cups of all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon of salt
- 1/4 cup of olive oil
- 2 cups of shredded mozzarella cheese
- 1/2 cup of grated Parmesan cheese
- 1/4 cup of melted butter
- 2 cloves of garlic, minced
- 1/4 cup of chopped fresh parsley
Instructions
- In a small bowl, combine 1 1/2 cups of warm water, 1 tablespoon of sugar, and 1 packet of active dry yeast. Let it sit for 5 minutes until foamy.
- In a large mixing bowl, combine 3 1/2 cups of all-purpose flour and 1 teaspoon of salt. Gradually add the yeast mixture and 1/4 cup of olive oil, stirring until a dough forms.
- Turn the dough out onto a floured surface and knead for 5 minutes until smooth and elastic. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a clean kitchen towel, and let it rise in a warm place for 1 hour, or until doubled in size.
- Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C). Punch down the dough and divide it into 12 equal pieces. Roll each piece into a breadstick shape and place them on a greased baking sheet.
- In a small bowl, mix together 2 cups of shredded mozzarella cheese and 1/2 cup of grated Parmesan cheese. Sprinkle the cheese mixture over the breadsticks, pressing lightly to adhere.
- Bake for 12-15 minutes, or until the breadsticks are golden and the cheese is bubbly and melted.
- In a small saucepan, melt 1/4 cup of butter and add 2 cloves of minced garlic. Cook for 1-2 minutes until fragrant. Brush the garlic butter over the hot breadsticks and sprinkle with 1/4 cup of chopped fresh parsley.
- Serve the extra cheesy breadsticks warm and enjoy!
Cheesy breadsticks with extra cheese have a rich history dating back to ancient Rome, where flatbreads topped with cheese were a popular snack. Over time, this simple dish evolved into the cheesy breadsticks we know and love today. In the 20th century, Italian chefs in Naples perfected the recipe, using a blend of mozzarella, parmesan, and herbs to create a gooey, flavorful topping. Today, the best cheesy breadsticks can be found in authentic Italian pizzerias, where skilled chefs hand-stretch the dough and generously sprinkle it with a mix of high-quality cheeses. The key to perfect cheesy breadsticks lies in the quality of the cheese and the art of baking the dough to golden perfection. Whether enjoyed as an appetizer or a side dish, these indulgent breadsticks are a cheese lover's dream.
