Created by: Howcan Team
Ingredients
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 tablespoon baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, cold and cubed
- 1 cup buttermilk
- 1/4 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 2 tablespoons honey
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 450°F (230°C).
- In a large bowl, whisk together 2 cups of flour, 1 tablespoon of baking powder, 1/2 teaspoon of baking soda, and 1 teaspoon of salt.
- Add the cold, cubed butter to the flour mixture and use a pastry cutter or fork to cut the butter into the flour until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
- Make a well in the center of the mixture and pour in the buttermilk. Stir until the dough comes together.
- Turn the dough out onto a floured surface and gently knead it 3-4 times. Pat the dough into a 1-inch thick circle.
- Use a floured biscuit cutter to cut out biscuits. Place the biscuits on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper, making sure they are touching each other.
- Bake for 12-15 minutes, or until the biscuits are golden brown.
- While the biscuits are baking, make the honey butter by combining 1/4 cup of softened butter with 2 tablespoons of honey. Mix until well combined.
- Serve the warm biscuits with the honey butter and enjoy!
Buttermilk biscuits with honey butter have a rich history in Southern cuisine, originating in the United States. These fluffy, buttery biscuits are a staple in Southern cooking, often served at breakfast or as a side dish. The combination of tangy buttermilk and sweet honey butter creates a perfect balance of flavors. Renowned Southern chefs like Paula Deen and Trisha Yearwood have popularized this dish, incorporating it into their restaurant menus and cookbooks. The best version of this dish can be found in traditional Southern diners and soul food restaurants, where the biscuits are made from scratch and the honey butter is whipped to perfection. The key to achieving the perfect buttermilk biscuit lies in using high-quality buttermilk and cold butter, while the honey butter requires the finest honey and creamy butter. For a unique twist, some chefs infuse the honey butter with additional flavors like cinnamon or lavender. Whether enjoyed with fried chicken or as a standalone treat, buttermilk biscuits with honey butter are a beloved comfort food that continues to delight food enthusiasts worldwide.
