Danish

The Almond Danish, also known as the Almond Kringle, is a delectable pastry with a rich history. Originating in Denmark, this flaky, buttery treat is filled with a sweet almond paste and often topped with sliced almonds and a light glaze. Its origins can be traced back to the 1850s when Danish bakers began experimenting with laminated dough and almond fillings. Today, the Almond Danish is enjoyed worldwide, with notable variations in Scandinavian bakeries and cafes. To experience the best version of this pastry, head to Copenhagen or visit renowned Danish bakeries in cities like Seattle and Chicago. The key to a perfect Almond Danish lies in the quality of the almond paste and the precise folding of the dough to achieve its signature layers. For a unique twist, consider adding a hint of cardamom to the almond filling for an extra burst of flavor.
