Yakitori is a traditional Japanese dish consisting of skewered and grilled chicken. Its history dates back to the Edo period, where street vendors in Tokyo would grill chicken skewers over charcoal and sell them to passersby. Today, yakitori has evolved into a popular izakaya (Japanese pub) dish, with specialized restaurants known as yakitori-ya offering a wide variety of skewered chicken parts, from thighs to livers, seasoned with tare sauce or salt. Chefs meticulously grill the skewers, ensuring the perfect balance of smokiness and tenderness. While Tokyo is renowned for its yakitori, cities like Osaka and Fukuoka also boast exceptional versions of this beloved dish. For an authentic experience, visit a yakitori-ya and savor the succulent, flavorful skewers.
