American

Waldorf Salad is a classic American dish that originated at the Waldorf-Astoria Hotel in New York City in the late 1800s. Created by the hotel's maître d'hôtel, Oscar Tschirky, the salad was an instant hit and became a staple on the hotel's menu. The original recipe included apples, celery, and mayonnaise, and it has since evolved to include ingredients like walnuts, grapes, and yogurt. Today, the best versions of this dish can be found in upscale restaurants and hotels, where chefs put their own spin on the classic recipe. The key to a great Waldorf Salad lies in the freshness of the ingredients and the perfect balance of flavors and textures. Whether it's served as a side dish or a light meal on its own, the Waldorf Salad continues to be a beloved favorite in American cuisine.
