- 4 venison cube steaks (about 1 pound)
- 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon onion powder
- 1/2 teaspoon paprika
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
- 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
- 1 cup beef broth
Instructions
- In a shallow dish, combine 1/2 cup of flour, 1 teaspoon of garlic powder, 1 teaspoon of onion powder, 1/2 teaspoon of paprika, 1/2 teaspoon of salt, and 1/4 teaspoon of black pepper.
- Dredge the venison cube steaks in the seasoned flour mixture, shaking off any excess.
- In a large skillet, heat 2 tablespoons of vegetable oil over medium-high heat.
- Add the dredged venison cube steaks to the skillet and cook for 3-4 minutes on each side, or until golden brown.
- Pour in 1 cup of beef broth and bring to a simmer. Reduce the heat to low, cover, and let the steaks simmer for 10-12 minutes, or until tender.
- Serve the venison cube steaks with the pan gravy spooned over the top. Enjoy!
Venison cube steak has a rich history rooted in traditional hunting cultures, where hunters would use every part of the deer for sustenance. This lean and flavorful cut of meat has been a staple in regions with a strong hunting tradition, such as the American Midwest and parts of Europe. Chefs and home cooks have long prized venison cube steak for its tenderness and versatility in recipes. Today, the best versions of this dish can be found in rustic, farm-to-table restaurants that specialize in wild game cuisine. The key to a perfect venison cube steak lies in proper seasoning and careful cooking to preserve its natural flavors. For a unique twist, some chefs marinate the steak in red wine or juniper berries to enhance its taste. Whether pan-seared or grilled, venison cube steak is a delicious and nutritious alternative to traditional beef cuts.
