Created by: Howcan Team
Ingredients
- 1 pound ground turkey
- 1/2 cup breadcrumbs
- 1/4 cup grated parmesan cheese
- 1 egg
- 1/4 cup chopped fresh parsley
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 1 onion, diced
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 can (28 ounces) crushed tomatoes
- 1 teaspoon dried oregano
- 1/2 teaspoon dried basil
- 1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes
- 12 ounces spaghetti
- 1/2 cup grated parmesan cheese, for serving
Instructions
- In a large bowl, combine the ground turkey, breadcrumbs, 1/4 cup parmesan cheese, egg, parsley, garlic powder, salt, and black pepper. Mix until well combined, then shape into meatballs.
- In a large skillet, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the meatballs and cook until browned on all sides, about 8-10 minutes. Remove from the skillet and set aside.
- In the same skillet, add the diced onion and cook until softened, about 5 minutes. Add the minced garlic and cook for an additional 1 minute.
- Stir in the crushed tomatoes, oregano, basil, and red pepper flakes. Bring to a simmer, then return the meatballs to the skillet. Cover and cook for 15-20 minutes, or until the meatballs are cooked through.
- While the meatballs are cooking, cook the spaghetti according to the package instructions. Drain and set aside.
- To serve, place a portion of spaghetti on each plate, top with the meatballs and sauce, and sprinkle with extra parmesan cheese. Enjoy!
The history of Turkey Meatball Spaghetti with extra parmesan cheese can be traced back to the fusion of Italian and American cuisines. This dish combines the traditional Italian flavors of spaghetti and meatballs with a healthier twist using turkey meat. The addition of extra parmesan cheese adds a rich and savory flavor to the dish. Chefs in Italian-American restaurants have perfected this recipe, creating tender and flavorful turkey meatballs that are simmered in a rich tomato sauce and served over al dente spaghetti. The dish has become a staple in Italian-American cuisine, particularly in regions with a strong Italian influence such as New York and New Jersey. For the best version of this dish, look for restaurants that use high-quality ground turkey and freshly grated parmesan cheese. The key to getting this dish right lies in the seasoning of the turkey meatballs and the slow simmering of the tomato sauce to develop deep flavors. An alternative method for making this dish is to bake the turkey meatballs in the oven before adding them to the tomato sauce, which can result in a slightly different texture and flavor profile. Whether enjoyed in a cozy Italian-American eatery or homemade with love, Turkey Meatball Spaghetti with extra parmesan cheese is a comforting and satisfying dish that continues to delight food lovers around the world.
