Created by: Howcan Team
Ingredients
- 8 oz whole wheat spaghetti
- 1 lb ground turkey
- 1/2 cup breadcrumbs
- 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
- 1 egg
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1/4 cup chopped fresh parsley
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 1 small onion, finely chopped
- 1 can (28 oz) crushed tomatoes
- 1 teaspoon dried oregano
- 1/2 teaspoon dried basil
- 1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Fresh basil leaves for garnish
Instructions
- In a large bowl, combine ground turkey, breadcrumbs, Parmesan cheese, egg, garlic, parsley, 1/2 teaspoon salt, and 1/4 teaspoon black pepper. Mix until well combined, then shape into meatballs about 1 inch in diameter.
- In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add the meatballs and cook until browned on all sides, about 8-10 minutes. Remove the meatballs from the skillet and set aside.
- In the same skillet, add the chopped onion and cook until softened, about 5 minutes. Add the crushed tomatoes, dried oregano, dried basil, and red pepper flakes. Season with salt and pepper to taste. Bring to a simmer.
- Return the meatballs to the skillet, cover, and simmer for 15-20 minutes, or until the meatballs are cooked through.
- While the meatballs are simmering, cook the whole wheat spaghetti according to the package instructions. Drain and set aside.
- To serve, place a portion of whole wheat spaghetti on each plate, top with the turkey meatballs and sauce, and garnish with fresh basil leaves. Enjoy!
