Tuna patties, also known as tuna cakes or tuna burgers, have a rich history dating back to the early 20th century. This popular dish originated in the United States as a way to make use of canned tuna, a pantry staple during the Great Depression. Over time, it has evolved into a beloved comfort food enjoyed in homes across the country. Chefs and home cooks alike have put their own spin on the recipe, incorporating ingredients like breadcrumbs, onions, and spices to enhance the flavor. Today, the best versions of this dish can be found in coastal regions known for their fresh seafood, such as the Pacific Northwest and New England. The key to a perfect tuna patty lies in using high-quality canned tuna and achieving the ideal balance of seasonings. While the classic recipe calls for pan-frying, some chefs opt for grilling or baking methods to add a unique twist to this timeless favorite.
