Tuna burgers have a rich history dating back to the 1980s when they gained popularity as a healthier alternative to traditional beef burgers. Chefs and home cooks began experimenting with fresh tuna, blending it with herbs, spices, and binders to create flavorful patties. This dish quickly became a staple in coastal regions, particularly in places like Hawaii and California, where fresh seafood is abundant. Today, the best tuna burgers can be found in seafood-centric restaurants along the coast, where chefs expertly grill or sear the patties to perfection. The key to a great tuna burger lies in using high-quality, fresh tuna and complementing flavors that enhance its natural richness. Some popular variations include adding avocado, wasabi mayo, or teriyaki glaze for an extra burst of flavor.
