  • 4 cloves
  • 1 cardamom pod

  • 1/2 cup fresh cilantro leaves
  • 1/2 cup fresh mint leaves
  • 1 lime, cut into wedges
  • Sriracha sauce, to taste

Instructions

  • Preheat the oven to 425°F. Place the beef bones, onion, and ginger on a baking sheet and roast for 30 minutes, or until browned.
  • In a large pot, dry roast the cinnamon stick, star anise, cloves, cardamom pod, and coriander seeds over medium heat for 2-3 minutes, until fragrant.
  • Add the roasted beef bones, onion, and ginger to the pot. Pour in the water, fish sauce, and sugar. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat and simmer for 3-4 hours, skimming off any foam that rises to the surface.
  • Strain the broth and return it to the pot. Discard the solids. Keep the broth warm over low heat.
  • Prepare the rice noodles according to the package instructions. Divide the noodles among 4 bowls and top with the raw beef slices.
  • Pour the hot broth over the beef and noodles. The heat of the broth will cook the beef slices.
  • Serve the pho with bean sprouts, basil, cilantro, mint, lime wedges, and sriracha sauce on the side for added spice. Enjoy!

Traditional Beef Pho is a beloved Vietnamese dish with a rich history dating back to the early 20th century. This iconic soup is a harmonious blend of savory broth, tender beef slices, and delicate rice noodles, garnished with fresh herbs and aromatic spices. The addition of sriracha, a popular hot sauce, infuses the dish with an extra kick of heat, elevating its flavor profile. In Vietnam, skilled chefs meticulously prepare Pho in bustling street stalls and family-owned restaurants, each adding their unique touch to the recipe. The dish has since gained global popularity, with renowned Vietnamese eateries and modern fusion restaurants offering their own interpretations. For an authentic experience, visit Hanoi, the birthplace of Pho, where you can savor the best versions of this iconic dish. The key to perfecting Traditional Beef Pho lies in the quality of the broth, the tenderness of the beef, and the balance of spices. While sriracha adds a fiery twist, purists may opt for traditional condiments like hoisin sauce and fresh chili peppers. Whether enjoyed in a humble eatery or a fine dining establishment, Traditional Beef Pho with added sriracha is a culinary delight that continues to captivate food enthusiasts worldwide.
