Tofu with Garlic Sauce over Steamed Vegetables

Ingredients
- 1 block of firm tofu, drained and cut into cubes
- 2 cups of mixed vegetables (such as broccoli, carrots, and bell peppers)
- 3 cloves of garlic, minced
- 1 tablespoon of soy sauce
- 1 tablespoon of hoisin sauce
- 1 teaspoon of sesame oil
- 1 teaspoon of cornstarch
- 1/2 cup of vegetable broth
- 2 tablespoons of vegetable oil
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Sesame seeds and green onions for garnish
Instructions
- Place the tofu cubes on a paper towel-lined plate and press with another paper towel to remove excess moisture.
- In a small bowl, whisk together the soy sauce, hoisin sauce, sesame oil, and cornstarch. Set aside.
- Heat 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the tofu cubes and cook until golden brown on all sides. Remove from the skillet and set aside.
- In the same skillet, add the remaining 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil. Add the minced garlic and cook for 1-2 minutes until fragrant.
- Add the mixed vegetables to the skillet and stir-fry for 3-4 minutes until they are tender-crisp.
- Pour in the vegetable broth and the soy sauce mixture. Bring to a simmer and cook for 2-3 minutes until the sauce thickens.
- Return the tofu to the skillet and toss to coat with the garlic sauce and vegetables. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
- Steam the vegetables until they are tender but still crisp, about 5-7 minutes.
- Transfer the steamed vegetables to a serving platter and arrange the tofu on top.
- Garnish with sesame seeds and chopped green onions before serving.
