- 1 cup plain yogurt
- 2 tablespoons tikka masala spice blend
- 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
- 1 onion, finely chopped
- 3 garlic cloves, minced
- 1 tablespoon grated fresh ginger
- 1 can (14 oz) crushed tomatoes
- 1 cup vegetable broth
- 1 teaspoon ground cumin
- 1 teaspoon ground coriander
- 1/2 teaspoon turmeric
- 1/2 teaspoon paprika
- 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 1/2 cup heavy cream
- Fresh cilantro for garnish
Instructions
- In a bowl, mix the plain yogurt with 1 tablespoon of tikka masala spice blend. Add the cubed tofu and toss to coat. Let it marinate for at least 15 minutes.

- Stir in the remaining 1 tablespoon of tikka masala spice blend, ground cumin, ground coriander, turmeric, paprika, and cayenne pepper. Cook for 1 minute until fragrant.
- Add the crushed tomatoes and vegetable broth to the skillet. Season with salt and pepper. Bring to a simmer and cook for 10 minutes, stirring occasionally.
- Using an immersion blender, blend the sauce until smooth. Alternatively, transfer the sauce to a blender and blend until smooth, then return to the skillet.
- Stir in the marinated tofu and cook for 10 minutes, stirring occasionally. Add the heavy cream and cook for an additional 5 minutes.
- Garnish with fresh cilantro and serve the tofu tikka masala with steamed rice or naan bread.
Tofu Tikka Masala is a flavorful and aromatic Indian dish that has gained popularity as a vegetarian alternative to the traditional chicken tikka masala. This dish originated in the Punjab region of India, where it was traditionally made with marinated and grilled chicken in a rich and creamy tomato-based sauce. Today, Tofu Tikka Masala is a staple in Indian restaurants around the world, known for its bold flavors and creamy texture. The key to a delicious Tofu Tikka Masala lies in the marination of the tofu, which is typically done with a blend of yogurt, spices, and herbs to infuse it with flavor before it's grilled or baked. The sauce, made with tomatoes, cream, and a blend of aromatic spices like cumin, coriander, and garam masala, is what gives this dish its signature taste. One of the best places to enjoy Tofu Tikka Masala is in the vibrant city of Mumbai, known for its diverse and innovative culinary scene.
