Created by: Howcan Team
Ingredients
- 1 block of firm tofu, pressed and cut into cubes
- 1/4 cup of soy sauce
- 2 tablespoons of peanut butter
- 2 tablespoons of lime juice
- 2 cloves of garlic, minced
- 1 tablespoon of brown sugar
- 1 teaspoon of ground cumin
- 1/2 teaspoon of turmeric
- 1/4 teaspoon of cayenne pepper
- Bamboo skewers, soaked in water for 30 minutes
Instructions
- In a small bowl, whisk together 1/4 cup of soy sauce, 2 tablespoons of peanut butter, 2 tablespoons of lime juice, 2 cloves of minced garlic, 1 tablespoon of brown sugar, 1 teaspoon of ground cumin, 1/2 teaspoon of turmeric, and 1/4 teaspoon of cayenne pepper to make the marinade.
- Place the cubed tofu in a shallow dish and pour the marinade over the tofu. Gently toss to coat the tofu evenly. Cover and refrigerate for at least 1 hour, or overnight for best results.
- Preheat the grill to medium-high heat. Thread the marinated tofu cubes onto the soaked bamboo skewers.
- Grill the tofu skewers for 3-4 minutes on each side, or until grill marks appear and the tofu is heated through.
- Serve the grilled tofu satay skewers with additional lime wedges and a side of peanut sauce for dipping, if desired. Enjoy!
Tofu Satay, a popular Southeast Asian dish, has a rich history dating back to the street food stalls of Indonesia and Malaysia. This flavorful dish features marinated tofu grilled on skewers, creating a perfect blend of smoky and savory flavors. Renowned chefs like Chef Wan in Malaysia and Chef William Wongso in Indonesia have elevated the art of making Tofu Satay, using traditional recipes passed down through generations. The key to perfecting this dish lies in the marinade, typically made with a mix of soy sauce, lemongrass, and spices, which infuses the tofu with a burst of aromatic flavors. Today, the best versions of Tofu Satay can be found in bustling night markets and local eateries across Southeast Asia. For a twist, consider using peanut sauce for dipping, adding a creamy and nutty dimension to this classic dish.
