Created by: Howcan Team
Ingredients
- 1 pound whole wheat pizza dough
- 2 cups fresh spinach, chopped
- 1 cup crumbled feta cheese
- 1/2 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
- 1/4 cup chopped red onion
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 1/2 teaspoon dried oregano
- 1/2 teaspoon dried basil
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
- 1/4 cup marinara sauce for dipping
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 425°F (220°C).
- In a large skillet, heat 1 tablespoon of olive oil over medium heat. Add the chopped spinach, minced garlic, and chopped red onion. Cook for 2-3 minutes until the spinach is wilted. Remove from heat and let it cool.
- On a lightly floured surface, divide the whole wheat pizza dough into 4 equal portions. Roll each portion into a 6-inch circle.
- Divide the cooked spinach mixture evenly among the 4 dough circles, leaving a border around the edges. Sprinkle crumbled feta cheese and shredded mozzarella cheese over the spinach mixture. Season with dried oregano, dried basil, salt, and black pepper.
- Fold the dough over the filling to create a half-moon shape. Press the edges firmly to seal the calzones. Use a fork to crimp the edges.
- Transfer the calzones to a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Cut a few slits on top of each calzone to allow steam to escape during baking.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes, or until the calzones are golden brown and crispy.
- Remove from the oven and let the calzones cool for a few minutes before serving. Serve with marinara sauce for dipping.
- Enjoy your delicious whole wheat spinach and feta calzone!
