Created by: Howcan Team
Ingredients
- 3 lbs chicken wings
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1 tsp salt
- 1 tsp black pepper
- 1 tsp garlic powder
- 1 tsp paprika
- 1/2 cup hot sauce
- 1/4 cup unsalted butter
- 1 tbsp honey
- 1/2 tsp cayenne pepper
- 1/2 tsp red pepper flakes
- 1/2 cup blue cheese dressing
- Celery sticks and carrot sticks, for serving
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- In a large bowl, mix 1 cup of flour, 1 tsp of salt, 1 tsp of black pepper, 1 tsp of garlic powder, and 1 tsp of paprika.
- Dredge the chicken wings in the flour mixture, shaking off any excess, and place them on the prepared baking sheet.
- Bake the wings in the preheated oven for 45 minutes, turning once halfway through, until they are crispy and golden brown.
- While the wings are baking, in a small saucepan, melt 1/4 cup of unsalted butter. Stir in 1/2 cup of hot sauce, 1 tbsp of honey, 1/2 tsp of cayenne pepper, and 1/2 tsp of red pepper flakes. Simmer for 5 minutes, then remove from heat.
- Once the wings are done, transfer them to a large bowl. Pour the spicy buffalo sauce over the wings and toss to coat evenly.
- Serve the wings with blue cheese dressing, celery sticks, and carrot sticks on the side.
- Enjoy your spicy buffalo chicken wings!
Spicy Buffalo Chicken Wings have a rich history dating back to 1964 when they were first created at the Anchor Bar in Buffalo, New York. Legend has it that the bar's owner, Teressa Bellissimo, whipped up a late-night snack for her son and his friends using leftover chicken wings. She tossed them in a spicy cayenne pepper sauce and served them with celery and blue cheese dressing, birthing a culinary sensation. Today, this iconic dish can be found in restaurants and bars across the United States, with variations in heat levels and sauces. The key to perfecting this dish lies in achieving the right balance of heat, tanginess, and crispy texture. For an authentic experience, head to the Anchor Bar in Buffalo, where the original recipe still reigns supreme. Alternatively, home cooks can experiment with alternative methods such as grilling or air frying to achieve that coveted crispy exterior. Whether you're in Buffalo or beyond, these fiery wings are a must-try for any spice-loving foodie.
