Created by: Howcan Team

Ingredients

  • 1 medium spaghetti squash
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1/2 onion, diced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 can (28 oz) crushed tomatoes
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1 teaspoon dried basil
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • Fresh basil leaves, for garnish
  • Grated Parmesan cheese, for serving

Instructions

  • Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C).
  • Cut the spaghetti squash in half lengthwise and scoop out the seeds. Place the squash halves, cut side down, on a baking sheet. Bake for 30-40 minutes, or until the flesh is tender and easily pierced with a fork. Remove from the oven and let cool for 10 minutes.
  • While the squash is baking, heat the olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the diced onion and cook until softened, about 5 minutes. Add the minced garlic and cook for an additional 1-2 minutes.
  • Stir in the crushed tomatoes, dried oregano, dried basil, salt, and pepper. Simmer the marinara sauce for 15-20 minutes, stirring occasionally, until it thickens slightly.
  • Using a fork, scrape the flesh of the spaghetti squash to create 'noodles'. Divide the squash noodles among serving plates and top with the marinara sauce. Garnish with fresh basil leaves and serve with grated Parmesan cheese.
  • Enjoy your healthy and delicious spaghetti squash with marinara sauce!

Italian

Spaghetti squash with marinara sauce is a popular dish that originated in Italy. The spaghetti squash, when cooked, has a texture similar to spaghetti, making it a healthy and gluten-free alternative to traditional pasta. The dish is typically served with a rich and flavorful marinara sauce, made with tomatoes, garlic, and herbs. In recent years, this dish has gained popularity in the United States and can be found on the menus of many Italian restaurants. Chefs often add their own twist to the marinara sauce, using fresh ingredients and secret family recipes to create a unique and delicious flavor. One famous alternative method for making this dish is to roast the spaghetti squash in the oven until tender, then use a fork to scrape out the "spaghetti" strands. This method brings out the natural sweetness of the squash and adds a depth of flavor to the dish. For the best version of this dish, look for restaurants that source high-quality ingredients and take pride in their marinara sauce. The key to getting this dish right is to ensure that the spaghetti squash is cooked perfectly and that the marinara sauce is well-balanced and full of flavor.
