Classic Spaghetti with Tomato Sauce

Ingredients
- 8 oz spaghetti
- 2 tbsp olive oil
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1/2 onion, finely chopped
- 1 can (14 oz) crushed tomatoes
- 1 tsp dried oregano
- 1/2 tsp red pepper flakes
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Fresh basil leaves for garnish
- Grated Parmesan cheese for serving
Instructions
- Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Add 8 oz of spaghetti and cook according to package instructions until al dente. Drain and set aside.
- In a large skillet, heat 2 tbsp of olive oil over medium heat. Add 3 cloves of minced garlic and 1/2 finely chopped onion. Cook until the onion is translucent and the garlic is fragrant, about 3-4 minutes.
- Stir in 1 can of crushed tomatoes, 1 tsp of dried oregano, and 1/2 tsp of red pepper flakes. Season with salt and pepper to taste. Simmer for 10 minutes, stirring occasionally.
- Add the cooked spaghetti to the skillet and toss to coat the pasta with the tomato sauce.
- Divide the spaghetti among serving plates. Garnish with fresh basil leaves and serve with grated Parmesan cheese on top.
